Book Promotion Myth --
The Best Place to Sell Books is a Book Store Judy Cullins
2001
When most people think of buying books they think of bookstores. Marketing guru, John Kremer, author of 1001 Ways to Market Your Book says "I'm glad I don't rely on retail "brick and mortar" bookstore sales for my income, but it will be nice to add that icing on the cake into my cash flow again."
In the past three years, John has sold 45,000 copies of his book, many from non-traditional marketing strategies; his web site, his eMagazine which offers tips, products and seminars, specialty stores, foreign markets, libraries, and back of the room sales. Because he is a recognized name, he and other bestsellers by famous authors get a lot of shelf space in the bookstore--cover side out. For your lesser-known book, only your spine will show and after three months of initial placement, your book will fade away unless you put on your promotion hat to get customers to the store.
In one book coaching session, a new client thought he wanted to sell to the bookstores. I asked him who was his particular audience. He said business people. What kind of business people? Do these people go to the "brick and mortar" bookstore for a business book? Or, will they be more likely to visit a particular business Web site for specific kinds of business books?
DID YOU KNOW?
*Seventy percent of US adults haven't been in a bookstore for the last 5 years
*Bookstores sell only 45% of all books sold *Bookstores return non-sold books to the author-think of the Starbucks people dripping their coffee and scone on your book. The author will get those returns. *Bookstores will take 90 days, even a year to pay you for your total book sales
*Bookstores only order two or three copies at a time because of limited shelf space
*Bookstores buy only from a distributor or wholesaler.
Why the big push to get a wholesale or distributor and get into the bookstore? These people represent so many other authors; don't you wonder how much attention your book will receive? They exact healthy fees, around 55%. That leaves a small profit for the author, and remember, bookstores, distributors and wholesalers don't promote your book!
After her distributor went belly up and she lost $160,000, one author said she would rather have more control over her priceless products. She distributes them all herself now through various venues that suit her personality.
Authors spend a lot of time and money chasing the improbable, when the "golden egg" of self-publishing and self-promotion is right in front of them. In my opinion, I'd sell my books everywhere except the bookstore!

Customer Review: Spooky fun
I got this game for my five year old to play with his 7 year old friend. I love the I Spy DVD games - the kids really enjoy the riddles and trying to find all the hidden objects, my son is getting better at reading the clues, and both kids had a great time in the disgusting kitchen of the mansion making the Shrinking Soup. Awesome learning tool for kids and really fun for adults too (who are often asked to help when that one darned thing is TOO well hidden!)
Customer Review: I Spy Books
I have all of the big "I Spy" books. I also have purchased some for my Granddaughter.

This book was ok. I used it as a reference for building a replica armor set. Its got nice details and some good concept art. It only contains however images from halo 1 and halo 2. There are no halo 3 pictures, screen shots or artwork.

Customer Review: Journey's Greatest Hits
Fantabulous stuff. I hearken back to my high school/college days with an unforgettable fondness. They don't make 'em like Mr. Perry anymore.
Customer Review: Journey always
I recently purchased this cd. It has all the hits. Journey defined the word music. I would have been lost growing up without them.
Carnival Steel Drum Collection: Hot Hot Hot & More, Vol.1
Carnival Steel Drum Collection: Hot Hot Hot & More, Vol.1
This unique collection offers instrumental steel drum versions of popular favorites.
Songs: Red Red Wine, I Can See Clearly Now, Day'O, Limbo Rock, Shake Senora, Jammin', La Bamba, Tequila, Volcano, Hot, Hot, Hot.
Customer Review: Ugh!
I was looking for music for an island theme party. The selection looked fun -- a lot of recognizable summer party songs with the steel drum flair. But then I bought it and actually listened to it. The steel drum parts are really good; however, the synthesized accompaniment is over powering and really cheesy (it sounds like it should be on Barney). Please, save your money and look elsewhere.
Customer Review: It's like being in the Caribbean
We listen to this CD while we are swimming in the pool or just hanging out with neighbors on our deck. It is great background music and makes you feel like you are on vacation.

Customer Review: great bag
I use this bag as my traveling office and it's great. A place for my laptop, thermos of coffee, folders and personal stuff. Lots of little places to put things, too. Great bag.
Customer Review: Stylish not practical
Not pleased because I paid extra to have it delivered two days after I ordered it and that did not happen. I was never given an opportunity to rate the seller- and leave feedback. The backpack itself is not very practical-which is what I was looking for, but it is stylish and I teach in a middle school and the kids love my work bag- but that was not what I was going for.

Bailey's Book House
Develop a love for reading with Bailey! Includes seven activities to help develop beginning literacy skills. Children will create their own story, make their own rhymes, learn the alphabet with letter machine, explore adjectives and sound out words at the three-letter carnival.
Customer Review: Great Learning Software
My 4-year-old really likes this software, along with Millie and Bailey's Preschool. The games are fun and challenging and my daughter has learned from playing it. She recognizes numbers well, has improved her counting skills, and can even count by 5s (5, 10, 15, 20, etc.) from playing these games. The games are fun enough to be engaging and educational enough to feel you aren't leaving your child to play "mindless video games."

Bejeweled
If you're looking for a fun game, this classic jewel puzzler will grab you for keeps. The definitive gem-swapping puzzle game features dynamic animations and sound effects, single and multiplayer modes, tutorials, and voiceover sounds to congratulate you on noteworthy moves. The goal is to make lines, horizontally or vertically, of three or more matching gems. Swap two adjacent pieces, and if you make a line of three or more pieces, it will disappear and new pieces will fall onto the board. The more matches you make, the higher your score. It's simple, challenging, and addictive. Keep track of your best performances, and keep an eye on the competition
Customer Review: bejeweled
I really enjoy playing this game. My Boyfriend and I play for hours at a time, until our hands are so cramped we can't move the fingers any more. It is extremely addicting! Can't wait to get Bejeweled 2!
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire brings back Harry, Ron, and Hermione for more adventure! Harry is mysteriously selected as the fourth contestant in the dangerous Triwizard Tournament. Each competitor in the international competition must confront a fire-breathing dragon, rescue friends from the icy depths of the Black Lake, and navigate the twisting mysteries of a vast, dangerous maze. It may sound difficult, but Harry is older, wiser and more skilled now. Still, even he isn't ready for another show with the evil Lord Voldemort himself!
Customer Review: Controls not explained!
Let me start off with the good things:
-the graphics are phenomenal
-you can choose your character
Now, the bad things:
-unlike the other HP games, you CANNOT wander around the Hogwarts grounds, which I enjoyed.
-The mouse has NO action whatsoever, not even in the main menu!
-I get stuck on so many levels, because most controls are NOT EXPLAINED! Not even in the manual!
-your "friends" (whoever you're not playing with) are so slow in following you and are almost always occupied with sneezing or wandering around when you need help so badly!
-I tried to install this game for one full year and never got it to install until I did some tricky things
Overall, I would have rated this game five stars if the bad things were fixed.
I think that EA Games was just porting over a Play Station game (I can tell by the graphics style) and not bothering to make it anymore convenient. EA did a poor job here. I would sort of recommend this game.
Customer Review: The worst. Period.
I LOVED the first four (SS, CoS, TPoA, and QWC) games.
The first one was a little too easy (I beat it in three days after some practice), the second one being a bit too hard (I have a fear of fire snails), the Third one and Quiddich World Cup being perfect.
When I bought the first game I was expecting another GREAT game. But here is what I got: graphics that were grainy, NO exploring, and no fun trunks with goodies. it was a HARD game, and i'm still stuck on the second task. I can't believe I decided to buy PetVet later because I wanted this. Here's hoping you can explore in the fifth one.
