QuickBooks 2004 Users - Get Ready for Sunset

QuickBooks 2004 users need to be aware of the upcoming sunset of their product. Intuit sunsets certain products every year, usually in the spring. The term sunset refers to the fact that Intuit will no longer offer support for the product, and electronic features, such as QuickBooks Bill Pay, Online Banking, etc., will no longer be available from within that product.

QuickBooks 2004 will officially sunset on May 31, 2007, as per Intuit?s sunset policy. On Intuit?s Sunset Policy web page, no reason is given for sunsetting their products, although it stands to reason that the company cannot afford to support each version of QuickBooks without end.

QuickBooks 2004 users, who use the electronic features or who need support from Intuit, should seriously consider upgrading to QuickBooks 2007 now, rather than waiting until closer to the sunset date. The reason is that Microsoft will release its new Internet Explorer 7 before the end of 2006, and it?s not compatible with QuickBooks 2004, or any version of QuickBooks prior to 2004. Intuit has stated that it will not update QuickBooks 2004 in order to make it compatible with IE7. Since QuickBooks 2004 uses Internet Explorer 6 for certain functions, users are forced to make a decision: either upgrade to QuickBooks 2007 and download IE7 when prompted, or don?t upgrade QuickBooks 2004 and decline the upgrade to IE7 when prompted.

QuickBooks 2004 users, who do not need support from Intuit and who do not use any of the electronic services, may choose to decline the upgrade of IE7. These users may continue using their product after the May 31, 2007 sunset date without any problems, since the software will still continue to function normally.

Users of QuickBooks prior to 2004 should decline the upgrade to IE7 when prompted, since those products are no longer supported and will not be updated by Intuit for any reason.

Intuit has announced that it will update QuickBooks 2005 & QuickBooks 2006 to make them compatible with IE7, so users of those products do not need to take any special action at this time. QuickBooks 2007 is already compatible with either Internet Explorer 6 or 7.

Visit the Intuit sunset policy page for more information about Intuit's product discontinuation policy.

Complete-A-Sketch Book 3- Perspective

Complete-A-Sketch Book 3- Perspective
The primary focus of this volume is perspective or three dimensional art of the most realistic variety. Perspective line art is used primarily by people in architectural and art fields. It is a great skill to have. Like Volume 1 & 2, the lessons start with the most basic shapes, cubes cylinders, one point perspective and two point perspectives, etc. After this simple beginning the difficulty builds and becomes more interesting. This allows for quick successes and fun. Quickly the student gains confidence and builds on new skills to move on to increasingly more complex sketches. Complete-A-Sketch is reproducible for your family; your child can start working with this book at age 9 or 10. This volume is the most challenging of the series and some students may wish just do do this volume to help them with this specific skill. Written and illustrated by Melvin G. Peterman

Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 1 TB Hard Drive

Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 1 TB Hard Drive
This elegant external hard drive, reminiscent of a book, is the perfect storage solution. It takes no more space than a paperback book. Collect two or more and they nest neatly together like volumes on a shelf. Installation is a snap because you don't really install this drive, you just plug it in and it's ready to use. A USB 2.0 simple connection offers convenience and compatibility among multiple computers. Dimensions - Height 6.5 x Length 5.4 x Width 2.1 Weight - 2.5 Pounds

Customer Review: One of the better ones around...

Design & Portability

I had 2 external HD's, which were 250GB and 150GB. It was in two different enclosures, so where ever I went, it was a real hassle carrying two HD's. MyBook is pretty compact with 1TB platter inside, helps slimming the width. Its piano black enclosure is really slick in HD design. I would give this HD the best design in its category. Very simplistic, no buttons, small slit of blue LED in front.

Out of the box

Everything was packed, there were no mounting the HD inside the enclosure needed, unlike my older HD's. I just had to plug and play, it was that easy!

Performance

I have used this for over a month and its performance is average. The specs is on the HD is pretty fast with 7200 rpm and 16MB buffer speed. I have always preferred firewire ports for external HD, because they pack more power which helps transfer data much faster than the USB 2.0's

I have a XP PC and I cant boot my pc if the HD is connected. I always have wait few seconds before the login screen shows up, then I connect the HD. (But if you use this with VISTA, there is no problem).

Whenever I exit from standby mode, my system recognizes the HD as if it was just plugged in... the autoplay becomes very annoying.

Software

The software which comes it it is completely useless. I would even go as far as to say dont even try it, save your energy! Its just a free trial. Download free back up software @ www.free-backup.info. It is much better than is included with the HD.

Price

I bought it for $[...] from amazon. I would expect more ports and features for this price. It does not provide great bang for your buck when competitors like Cavalry 1TB CAXM3701T0 which sells around $[...], have SATA cable and eSATA bracket (faster data transfer}!

Overall Rating: 3.5/5

Recommended:

Yes

Pros

Slick shiny design, Consumer friendly, Compact and portable (1TB platter instead of 2x500GB)

Cons

average data transfer only 1 USB port, average price, software is useless

The Bottom Line

Recommended for the average pc user, if you are advanced.. checking the specs highly advised.

Customer Review: Lot of room ,but a little slow

"I bought the 1tb drive to start backup my computer. It runs Win XP home edition. I had a little difficulties with it, but not too bad beyond that, the drive has a lot of room and finally not too hard to setup. My complain is that the hard drive comes with 32 FAT format, and changing to NTFS you lose preloaded software, and valuable time(over 4 hours formating the drive).

When I first used it I noticed it was not as quite as other said, but I was told some noise is okay. I am a little worried about the drive failing so I am a little cautious about committing to it for baking up now.

I thought it would be a little faster too, but I guess that's not a big deal."
