Communication is needed in all walks of life. This is the reason for us to write this article on book covers; to communicate it's meaning to everyone.

Today's book covers Article
Audio books - is the paper book really dead?

When I first heard of audio books in the 80's they were mostly mentioned as being a good alternative for the sight impaired. An ugly green plastic box of cassettes at the library is my first memory of audio books, so speech books as they were known. Writing this brings back memories of the library lady who told us kids that these books are only for the blind and that we could not lend them. Too bad, I thought - it would be a great way to "read" books while doing other things, instead of watching TV.

Fast forward to 2006, and audio books are becoming a huge success. And they are certainly not just for those hard of seeing, they are for everybody. Imagine the busy business woman who just can't squeeze in 30 minutes to read even thou she really longs to escape to the fantasy of a good book. Thanks to the Audio book, she can "read" that book while driving to work, rushing off for lunch or walking to the daycare center. In fact, now that the audio books can be loaded onto Ipods and other media players it's really easy to bring it along anywhere you go. You could even load up tens of books and alternate between them. On a side not though; don't forget to set your MP3 player to Normal play, instead of Random play or you could end up with some interestingly confusing results chapter wise.

Now that I have already touched the subject of different formats, why not get into that a bit deeper. You can get audio books in the form of CD's, which is still a common way of delivering audio books. The disadvantage to this is that a book can take up a lot of CD's and each only run for about one hour. More recently these spoken books have become available in the form of Media player sound files, such as MP3. The great advantage to this is that you can purchase your book online and download it and instantly begin to listen to it without any waiting time. If your book is not available as a sound file but as CD you can convert them yourself using different software, you can easily find them by searching for "convert CD mp3" or if you use Windows Media Player you actually have this function built in for free - it's called Rip.

No matter what format you prefer, or when you like to listen to your books one thing is for sure - this market is growing and readers/listeners love the convenience of audio books. When the Internet became popular a bit over 10 years ago the rumor had it that the book was dying thanks to the Net, those rumors of death are now proved to be widely exaggerated. Books are not dead; they are "sound" alive.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium (Widescreen Edition)

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium (Widescreen Edition)
Mr. Magorium (Dustin Hoffman) owns and runs the most magical store in the universe, where all of the toys for sale are alive. But, when the aging shopkeeper decides to retire and sell the business to his faithful cashier (Natalie Portman), he hires an uptight accountant (Jason Bateman) to get his affairs in order.

Customer Review: Great for the young 'uns (and not so young 'uns!)

This is a terrific family movie that is suitable for children of all ages. There are, to a degree, some parallels with Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory [HD DVD]. However, for the most part it is its own movie. It centers around a man (played by Dustin Hoffman) who wishes to leave the management / ownership of his magical toy store to his favorite employee (portrayed by Natalie Portman) as he can sense that his end is near. Unfortunately, Portman's character is apprehensive about taking over the toy store, mostly stemming from a lack of self-confidence.

To be sure, many will say that this film is predictable, and so it is. However, the people who criticize it on such grounds are, I believe, missing the point. Granted, there are no real "hooks" in the plot or plot-twists that will keep you guessing. So what? In a movie like this, it really doesn't matter. At base, to me the film is not so much about the story itself as it is about how we all used to look upon the world with such a sense of wonder when we were children. People who are only looking for surprises are not prone to "getting it" insofar as this DVD is concerned.

The casting is terrific with Hoffmann and Portman leading the way. Hoffmann gets his chance to play a sort of pseudo-Santa Clause, and it's evident that he enjoyed himself immensely. I've always like Portman, and it's nice to see a young woman who is both a fine actress as well as a great person. She is kind of the antipode to "bad girls" like Lindsay Lohan.

If you are the parent of small children, I'd highly recommend this film. If you're not a parent of small children but enjoy feeling like a kid again, this one is recommended to an equal degree.

Customer Review: My experience shows that kids love it and adults are less enthused

OK, I didn't quite know what to make of this movie. It has its charms. Unlike some folks, I didn't mind Dustin Hoffman's choice of hair and lisp for Mr. Magorium. The man is supposed to be more than two hundred years old, magical, and imbued with a childlike wonder of life. Yet, the story really isn't about him. The story is about Molly Mahoney, played by Natalie Portman (one of the actors I always enjoy). She was a child prodigy on the piano who, the story says, played the Rachmaninoff Second Piano Concerto. Yeah, right. No one who could actually play that concerto as a child would ever find there way behind the counter of a toy store. The sad history of prodigies does indicate a poor chance for her to progress into permanent pianistic stardom, but she would likely stay in music or head into some other intellectual profession. Oh, and the kind of music the movie has her "composing" and playing is just absurd. Portman's hands look as if they have had lessons and played the piano, but they are not hands strong enough or experienced enough for a big concerto. As the Master Thespian used to declare, "Acting!"

Magorium hires an accountant, a counting-mutant, to help him figure out what the store is worth since he has never even seen a receipt. The hiring of Henry Weston (played by Jason Bateman - whom I also always enjoy) is one of the more delightful scenes in the movie. Of course the store is in a state beyond disarray. Magorium isn't big on explaining why he wants the Mutant (as he is affectionately called). The other delightful character in the movie is Eric Applebaum (delightfully done by Zach Mills). Eric is a lonely boy with amazing creativity, a superb collection of hats, and zero friends. Given his personality that seems as impossible as Molly's playing Rachmaninoff.

The store Magorium runs is indeed magical, and we are given abundant evidence of it. However, it understands Magorium's secret, as do some of the toys, and none are happy about it. Magorium intends to give the store to Molly, who doesn't want it because she wants Magorium to stay. He can't or won't. The store turns entirely black after he goes and Molly intends to sell it. But Eric and the Mutant want her to keep it. The climax of the story, which is about the power of being aware of the magic that is your life and the power of believing in yourself, is whether or not Molly can bring the store to its former glory or whether she lets it slip away. Take a big guess.

So, some of the things in the story didn't work for me. I didn't like that no one has an actual complete family. Magorium's history is largely never discussed nor is how he lived to be a couple of hundred years old. We do learn about his delight in the kind of shoes wears. Molly is alone except for the store (no boyfriend, fiancé, mother, or father), Eric has a Mom but only because he is nine. She doesn't do much except fret. The Mutant is as alone and as detached Molly. And the issue surrounding Magorium's decision actually makes no sense and has nothing of the weight such events have in real life.

Yet, my opinion of the movie changed when my five year old granddaughter watched it. She was delighted and mesmerized and demanded to see it again immediately. And she has watched it twice more since. So, there is obviously something about the movie that is compelling to a small child that escapes me as an adult, deeply into the realities of life. Hmmmm... take that for what you will and I added a star because of my grandchild's enthusiasm. It is not a bad movie. The special effects are a bit much. However, it is successful for the kids. Go with them, I guess.

Customer Review: Works Perfectly (almost)

If you want a night light for your Kindle, this is the one. Has two settings, and works just fine. Why 4 instead of 5? Because it doesn't work directly on the Kindle and unless you've added Velcro to the back of the Kindle to hold it in it's holder it doesn't work very well there either. But with the little extra space the Velcro adds, it works just fine.

Customer Review: Perfect light for avid readers

Finally--a light to chase away shadows cast by poor lighting plans in hotel rooms, badly placed light in airplanes, and a large personal TVs blocking light on exercycles.

So far, this handly little companion has willingly clasped on everywhere I've put it and the flexible neck permits any variety of light placements. So great I've already given one to my husband and will probably use a bunch of them as gifts throughout the year.

Customer Review: Buy the Illustory Book Kit put have patience!!!

I just finished helping my daughter complete her first Illustory Book about her pet kitty. I only paid $5.93 on Amazon in December for the Illustory Pet Story. Now it seems to be more expensive. My daughter is age six and wanted to use real photos of our cat so we decided to use the online version. You get to type as many words per page as you would like and the first 15 double sided pages are free. I think it took me about 2 hours just to figure out the software and how to upload my digital photos to the book. I was using a Mac and I was very frustrated at times. I said a few bad words. My daughter seemed to enjoy the process very much. Go figure. You submit the complete book online and pay the $3.95 return book shipping fee with a credit card. I thought this was going to be included in the kit price, but was it not. They say they online version speeds up the production time. We are patiently awaiting for our masterpiece to arrive. Next time, I will have her draw her own illustrations on the paper forms and mail it in. I think it is more charming that way.

Customer Review: Brain Power or NO

To really test your investigative skills, you need to play this game on the most difficult level. Anything less than that makes this game a click through to some degree, meaning that all you have to do is click on the highlighted items and it will take you to the next step.

Other than that, the game is interesting. The cases are interesting. But sometimes they can be a bit frustrating trying to find out what piece of evidence will crack the case for you.

Another frustrating thing is the fact that you cannot do anything while the characters are speaking. But I've discovered that right-clicking or hitting the spacebar cancels the current speech. However, when you are required to answer questions at the end, some of the questions are based on what was said.

Try it and see for yourself. Have fun.

Customer Review: Great Game Could Use More Excitement

The game was great, but I think that it could use more excitement. It gets pretty boring after a while. I finished the game in like two days. It is something that I will play over again though.

Revolver [UK]

Revolver [UK]
Revolver wouldn't remain the Beatles' most ambitious LP for long, but many fans--including this one--remember it as their best. An object lesson in fitting great songwriting into experimental production and genre play, this is also a record whose influence extends far beyond mere they-was-the-greatest cheerleading. Putting McCartney's more traditionally melodic "Here, There and Everywhere" and "For No One" alongside Lennon's direct-hit sneering ("Dr. Robert") and dreamscapes ("I'm Only Sleeping," "Tomorrow Never Knows") and Harrison's peaking wit ("Taxman") was as conceptually brilliant as anything Sgt. Pepper attempted, and more subtly fulfilling. A must. --Rickey Wright

Customer Review: Taxman

Paul McCartney and John Lennon were the best song writing duo ever and that is without a doubt, thus this album is one of the best ever. Not one filler to be found here. George Harrison starts it out with my personal favorite Taxman and it just goes from there. Outstanding lyrics with Paul and John never sounding better.

Customer Review: Revolver

ESSENTIAL ALBUM!!! The Beatles so-called transitional album (going from a touring group to a studio only group) is one of their most creative. This album marks where they began experimenting in the studio, expanding their sound that would culminate with Sgt. Pepper's. The album features one of George Harrison;s best songs "Taxman", followed by one of Paul McCartney's best songs "Eleanor Rigby". Other outstanding tracks include "Good Day Sunshine", "Here, There and Everywhere" & "Got to Get You Into My Life". The closing track "Tomorrow Never Knows", though disowned by John Lennon, is one of Lennon's best songs leading the way to the psychedelic era.

The album cover also is one of the most unique ever done, it's artist is Klaus Voorman who would later play bass for Lennon on his early solo releases.

There is some filler here, mostly by Lennon, but it's great that we have the U.K. version instead of the illegitimate children that Capitol passed off onto the domestic market. I agree with some that this is NOT one of the best albums that they ever did, I reserve that for The White Album & Abbey Road. The one thing about the Beatles, though, was you never knew exactly what you were getting until you played it, which always made it entertaining!

An easy-close snap helps to keep everything nicely held together, and 40 high quality photo holding pages allow you to keep 160 4"x6" photos.

Customer Review: Not what expected

I am not sure if it was me and I did not read the fine print on the product information, but it certainly was not what I expected. I ordered it with the expectations it was a soft book as a first photo album. As I live overseas I sent the book to my mother who forwarded it to my father who I just recently visited in the US. When I opened the package I was so disappointed. I actually wished she had opened it and mailed it back! The album is a cute soft cover over a hard photo album (mine was a pink album with butterflies!), one anyone could buy. And as one other reviewer wrote, the soft cover could be made yourself.

I will put this on the shelf and maybe use it when my son is older (he is 8 months now and took the cover off and tried eating the hard book) and will order what I really wanted. A completely soft cover book with a few pages for pictures that he can look at as a baby!

Customer Review: Fair product - not the sturdiest

It's a cute idea and reasonably priced. But I almost feel you can make one on your own. Still, if you're looking for a stocking stuffer type gift, this works nicely.

My First Photo Album

My First Photo Album
My First Photo Album is an adorable way to save treasured memories of your little one. The solid binding is covered by a soft decorative fabric featuring embroidery and various appliques.

Creating Scrapbooking Brag Books

What better gift than a brag book for grandma and grandpa? Over the years, I know that my parents have always appreciated photos that have been shared with them of all of their grandchildren.

As parents, we love attending plays, dance recitals, choral performances and graduations, whether from preschool, elementary school or high school. Grandparents are not always in town or available to attend these events. They too enjoy sharing in the pride of these days.

I believe 6x6 albums work great to create these brag books. Often a dozen photos are all you need to complete an album.

So what themes can you use for these brag books?

If you have a toddler, here are some thought starters for albums:

? A day at preschool

? A day at swim lessons

? A day at the park

? A trip to the zoo

For elementary age children often the children are involved in one of many activities:

? Soccer games

? Baseball games

? Ballet lessons

? Gymnastics

Snap some photos. Again, just a dozen will do of your children participating in any of these activities. Both of my kids attended elementary schools that had many photo opportunities. The kids did class presentations. They performed with the music teacher once a year. They did some type of play or presentation once a year. They had a jog a thon once a year. We had just tons and tons of school activities where photos could be taken.

When the kids are high school age, often they too are involved in either chorus or theater or band or sports. I know one mom who created one large album from each football year her son participated in. A mini album from one game would be wonderful. Again, there are so many opportunities for a dozen photos to put into a brag book.

I?ve also always included a school photo in the scrapbooks. Usually a wallet sized photo on the front page of the scrapbook with the year the photo was taken is a great addition to the scrapbook.

Mini albums do not have room for many embellishments, but you can certainly add stickers and a few diecuts to dress up the pages of your brag book.

Try creating a brag book and see if grandma and grandpa?s faces don?t light up with joy!!

An easy-to-use solution for doing your payroll essentials, in-house! Use up-to-date tax tables and automatic calculations to efficiently run your payroll directly from within QuickBooks-use your existing QuickBooks software or the included QuickBooks Simple Start CD. Standard Payroll is designed for small business owners who want to automate the payroll process, but don't need to file state payroll taxes or track more advanced calculations.

Customer Review: keeps me current

I figure just one error in payroll calculations and I would spend more than the cost of this software. I have used it for a couple years now and love that it updates and does things for me. I only wish this or the QB would allow doing gross checks and then calculate the taxes. To do that I have to buy a different version of QB. Not worth the extra money for the few checks I write. But for payroll calcs it is a good thing to have.

Elvis on Tour

Elvis on Tour
Customer Review: Elvis on Tour

We follow Elvis from city to city. He dons jumpsuits and gains weight. We see his increasing boredom. Elvis disintegrated after his divorce from Priscilla. Lyrics became morbid. Burning Love was the last big hit. His records were good until the end, but there was little recording the last two years. The film got the Golden Globe Award for Best Documentary. It is chaotic but worth it because it is candid Elvis. The quote from his father about guitar players not being worth a damn would not have come out a decade earlier. Elvis' songlist is filled with hits by other artists. His own Lawdy Miss Clawdy sounds as sexy today as it did in the beginning.

Customer Review: The greatest entertainer of all time in fine form.

Elvis in 1972 was still at the top of his game, lean and mean and energetic. In "Elvis on Tour" we get a fantastic snapshot at the King in top form; I only wish 1 - that it was available on DVD and 2- that some of the concerts with clips included in the movie were available on video in their entirety. Very highly recommended!

In Between Dreams

In Between Dreams
For a man who gets his biggest kicks surfing the waves and strumming his guitar on a lonely beach in native Hawaii, singer-songwriter Jack Johnson has carved out quite a remarkable career on the mainland. His 2003 album, On and On, debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and subsequently went platinum on the back of hit single "The Horizon Has Been Defeated." The follow-up, meanwhile, seems destined to shine even brighter. The drifting chords and soft voice are still in place, only now Johnson's instinct for melody has sharpened alongside his ability to self-edit. These small concessions make third album, In Between Dreams, his most conspicuous, particularly on tracks like the three-minute relationship drama, "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing," and "Breakdown," a song he originally recorded for Handsome Boy Modeling School's White People album remade here to reveal its full stripped-down loveliness. Imagine all the coconuts it will buy. -- Aidin Vaziri

Customer Review: LOVE IT!!!!

This is one of the few, and rare, albums that one will find in life that you can fall in love with every song on the album. I think it is a great compilation I also think that Jack Johnson has a very easy voice to listen too.

Customer Review: Well Worth it!

Yes, it's expensive. Yes, your friends will make fun of you when you tell them you bought it or they see it in your den. But if you read a lot for work or school, this is great product worth every penny.

I'm earning my MBA at night and have to read numerous textbooks and cases. This product (combined with a good office chair) has dramatically reduced neck and back strain from hunching over books on my desk for long hours. I can read with my back comfortably positioned in my chair with my head and neck straight. An added bonus is that I can have my laptop and supplementary reading materials on my desk for easy reference -- just a quick turn and I can Google a reference in the book I'm reading or refer to my lecture notes. The adjustability of this thing is literally infinite, so it can accomodate any preferences and let you alter reading positions every so often to further reduce fatigue. I can't recommend this product enough.

I do recommend getting a separate clip on book light for this product. Because it elevates the book and places it at angles, whatever light you may be using on your desk will not suffice. I recommend two of the Mighty Brights.

Sport Fish of Florida

Sport Fish of Florida
This full color 256-page book from long-time fishing legend and Florida Sportsman Magazine Sr.Editor Vic Dunaway features his 50-plus years of fishing knowledge. Each of the 231 species is illustrated with original full-color artwork from renowned marine artist Kevin R. Brant. The book answers many common questions, providing specific information about the type of fish, its range and habitat, identifying features, whether or not it is good to eat, the average and record size of each fish and the best fishing methods to catch them.

Customer Review: Overall Great Book

I think the book is pretty good. The pictures are detailed and colorful, then it gives the basic lowdown on all the fish, and I really like that it gives you at least an idea of edibility. I also liked that they included a section for freshwater fish. I kind of wish it could have talked more about typical methods to catch the different fish, but I guess the book can't have everything..Overall a great book.

The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism

The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism
The End of Faith. The God Delusion. God Is Not Great. Letter to a Christian Nation. Bestseller lists are filled with doubters. But what happens when you actually doubt your doubts?

Although a vocal minority continues to attack the Christian faith, for most Americans, faith is a large part of their lives: 86 percent of Americans refer to themselves as religious, and 75 percent of all Americans consider themselves Christians. So how should they respond to these passionate, learned, and persuasive books that promote science and secularism over religion and faith? For years, Tim Keller has compiled a list of the most frequently voiced “doubts” skeptics bring to his Manhattan church. And in The Reason for God, he single-handedly dismantles each of them. Written with atheists, agnostics, and skeptics in mind, Keller also provides an intelligent platform on which true believers can stand their ground when bombarded by the backlash. The Reason for God challenges such ideology at its core and points to the true path and purpose of Christianity.

Why is there suffering in the world? How could a loving God send people to Hell? Why isn’t Christianity more inclusive? Shouldn’t the Christian God be a god of love? How can one religion be “right” and the rest “wrong”? Why have so many wars been fought in the name of God? These are just a few of the questions even ardent believers wrestle with today. In this book, Tim Keller uses literature, philosophy, real-life conversations and reasoning, and even pop culture to explain how faith in a Christian God is a soundly rational belief, held by thoughtful people of intellectual integrity with a deep compassion for those who truly want to know the truth.

Customer Review: Good, Balanced and Respective Approach...

This is the first book that I have read by Tim Keller. I have wanted to read him ever since I heard him speak at the 2006 Desiring God Conference. He is the older and more tame version of Mark Driscoll, as far as vision for the city goes. He is the pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City (Manhattan) and the church that he started in 1989, that everyone said would be a bust, is now serving over 5000 congregants per week.

The book, The Reason for God, is very well done. It is what we in the Christian community would call a presuppositional apologetics book. Or to define more precisely, it is a way to give rational reasons for the Christian faith and oppose other worldviews by exposing the flaws in their thinking. Tim Keller does this very well, yet very respectively as well. The book is set up in two parts. The first part of the book is The Leap of Doubt. This first part is answering the accusations/questions that skeptics put forth, by showing not only the holes in their argument(s) but then reversing it and showing why faith in God and Jesus Christ is the better answer for the question posed. The accusations/questions are:

1. There Can't Be Just One True Religion

2. How Could a Good God Allow Suffering?

3. Christianity is a Straightjacket

4. The Church is Responsible for So Much Injustice

5. How Can a Loving God Send People to Hell?

6. Science Has Disproved Christianity

7. You Can't Take the Bible Literally

The Second half, and I like how Keller puts it, is to show the clues for God. Keller does this very masterfully.

The Second half is called, The Reasons for Faith, and they are:

1. The Clues of God

2. The Knowledge of God

3. The Problem of Sin

4. Religion and the Gospel

5. The (True) Story of the Cross

6. The Reality of the Resurrection

7. The Dance of God

epilogue: Where do we go from here?

Although I don't agree fully on some of Keller's theology, I found that to be okay with what was trying to be disclosed in this book. Keller tries to take the focus off of denominational lines completely, to show forth the most important question, "Is there a God?" and the second part of this was to put forth why Christ is God and truly did die on the cross. I like how Dr. Keller puts it to one person. A lady came and told Dr. Keller that she couldn't believe the Bible because it was so oppressive to women. He told her that before she was concerned with the doctrine of men and women she needed to first ask the question, "Was Christ really resurrected from the dead?" Because the answer to that question is an eternal one, and the one about women and the Bible should be searched out only when she has answered the first.

Throughout this book, Dr. Keller, lays out simple clues to who God is, why Christ died, and why He rose again. Dr. Keller puts his heart on the line as he gives insight to his personal stories from his own congregation. He lays out what the cross means to us personally, and not just a historical valid argument. Because of this, the reader feels as though Dr. Keller is speaking directly towards them, because he cares for them. It is odd, but I couldn't put the book down and I felt Dr. Keller's passion for the King called Jesus.

I would highly recommend to any who call themselves Christians, and any who call themselves skeptics. It is definitely a book that will make you think upon the eternal aspects of life and direct you towards the clues that God has left for us to know Him. I found this to be one of the best apologetics books I have ever read.

Customer Review: Imaginary Friends Are For Kids

I'm really disappointed in this author. For someone who talks so much about his own "intellectual gifts," he's not very bright.

Let me explain this in simple terms.

The Jewish religion had a LOT of competition. About 100 BC, there was a movement inside Judaism to add some supernatural elements. Specifically, there were

(a) a general resurrection of all the dead at a Day of Judgment,

(b) demonic spirits which could be cast out through exorcism, and

(c) dreams were actually messages from God, and

(d) angels that appeared in dreams to deliver these messages were real.

Until 70 AD, the leaders of Judaism fought against these ideas. Then Titus destroyed the Temple of Jerusalem, and the Resurrection Cults were given new attention. The Gospel of Mark was rewritten to make Jesus APPEAR to agree with the Pharisees on major points, such as the End of the World taking place "while some of those standing here are still alive." Which placed the Christian deadline for the End of the World in 120 AD or earlier.

Nothing in Christianity is credible in any sense. There was no General Resurrection of the dead. Jesus did not restore the political independence of Israel, or rule Israel from the throne of King David.

A book that pretends to defend Christianity against critics... must address the issues. Otherwise, the author is dishonest.

The Levo Book Holder is a reader's dream. It was fairly easy to assemble. The Book Holder is sturdy and I expect many years of use. It is easy to attach a large book to the stand. The book can be angled in many ways to give the reader the most comfortable view. After a few minutes getting used to it I found the Levo Book Holder far exceeded my expectations.Levo Book Holder

The Beatles (The White Album)

The Beatles (The White Album)
Better known as the "White Album," this was meant to be the record that brought them back to earth after three years of studio experimentation. Instead, it took them all over the place, continuing to burst the envelope of pop music. Lennon and McCartney were still at the height of their powers, with Lennon in particular growing into one of rock's towering figures. But even McCartney could still rock, and the amazement on "Helter Skelter" was that he had vocal cords at the end. From Beach Boys knock-offs to reggae and to the unknown ("Revolution #9"), this has it all. Some records have legend written all over them; this is one. --Chris Nickson

Customer Review: BEST BEATLES Album in my opinion

MY favorite song is Goodnight and it will be the lullaby I will be singing to my grandchildren. That song just touches my soul. Sadly it is only on this album, and unless you have this it goes unheard. There is great music on this album I have to say that this is my favorite and I have a lot of Beatle music.

Customer Review: Their Greatest Accomplishment

As my friend says, "Everything the Bible doesn't say, is in the White Album". This album may have some of their worst songs but the rest is perfection. Every time I listen to it I have a new favorite, the songs grow on me or they leave and come back, Hell Helter Skelter is kind growing on me. The album has everything I could ever ask for; however, this is not my favorite Beatles album, that goes to Rubber Soul.

Customer Review: Act 2007 works FAST and FINE with right system.

I ordered ACT 2007 (got a great price on 2007 vs 2008. Shop around). After buying, I read all the negative reviews and figured I was in the deep stuff. However, I found quite the opposite.

As a background - I converted 6500 contacts from Goldmine using conversion software. I left GM because it is not supported any longer and was getting a little paranoid about the consequences of major problems.

Of course there were some duplications and minor errors in the conversion but nothing major. There is also a learning curve for a new user and some quirks as with any program. However, the format is much, much more user friendly for a smaller company (4 users) than is GM.

The major concern to others seems to be speed. Not for us. We are on a peer to peer XP network. We keep one machine dedicated to data storage with no users on it. We did update to all new Dell Vostro and Optiplex machines with 2.0 GHZ or better and a minimum of 1 GB RAM, 80 GB drives. The response from the ACT program is instantaneous. I do not know if the speed problems everyone is complaining about is a function of old slow equipment, converting from prior versions, slow network, or what. Our ACT is fast.

Now I have to admit the manual is crap (aren't they all?). For the first time in 20 years I subscribed to a support contract. I suspected that it would be a lot cheaper with a new and fairly complicated program than beating my head against the wall trying to figure out those little quirks. I was right. I have already recouped the $200 cost with a couple of phone calls. The quality and courtesy surprised me. The contract covers 13 months for less than the price of one license at retail. And as a bonus, you get to talk to real live Americans who actually know something about the program. (Listen up HP. I don't want to talk to India). I also bough ACT for Dummies. Very useful book so far.

I wonder if anyone doing exactly the same as we did has the same concerns about speed as some of the other reviewers. I gave 5 it stars so people would see that the program is not the junk others are calling it. However because of the manual it really should be 4.5 stars.

Customer Review: Avoid a heart attack, just don't buy it.

Buying Sage Act! 2007 is one of the most stupid things I did on my career.

It simply doesn't work.

And if you want to contact the company for help, you have to pay $200+ for a customer service plan.

The email function it has collapsed 2 times in about 6 months, making me lose tons of valuable information and time.

Sage simply steal my money.

Avoid frustrations like mine and other thousand of users, just get another solution from another company.

The book arrived in average condition at best and was clearly read and the cover was dog-eared and showed signs of typical use. The service was good and was shipped within 48 hours.

Customer Review: Excellent book for beginner tile-setters

I have been searching for the perfect book on tiling and finally I have found it. I have never done this before and have several projects in my home that I want to complete (floors, countertop, fireplace) and this is the first book that covers each one. This is a brief look into what the book holds:

    1. Tile Basics (characteristics, sizes/shapes, room prep)

    2. Tools and Matrials (prep tools, cutting tools, setting tools, basic materials)

    3. Tiling floors

    4. Tiling walls

    5. Tiling countertops

    7. Indoor projects

? Harry Potter Audio Book 5 : The Order of the Phoenix
? Harry Potter Audio Book 6 : The Half-Blood Prince

In the American edition of the Harry Potter audio book series, Jim Dale, a singer, songwriter, and actor from Rothwell, England, is the voice of all the characters. His work on the Harry Potter audio book series has won Dale a Grammy Award (2000); one Grammy nomination each for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix; and two AudioFile Earphone Awards. For the UK edition, Stephen John Fry, an English comedian, author, actor and filmmaker, is the voice.

The Harry Potter audio books have been highly praised by many, who regard it as an exceptional educational activity for dyslexic children and younger kids who can not read yet. For children who dislike reading books, once they listen to the Harry Potter audio books and become familiar with the stories, it may be able to guide and encourage them to start reading the Harry Potter real books. In addition, the Harry Potter audio books can teach them new words, accurate pronunciations, and proper speaking techniques. However, critics have also accused the Harry Potter audio books of encouraging children to read lesser than they would usually do in normal circumstances. Others have also blamed the audio books of stealing away the imagination and creativity of the children.

    Once

    Once
Winner of the World Audience Award at Sundance, Once starts out as a small-scale romance, like Before Sunrise, before arriving somewhere unexpected. An Irish busker (Glen Hansard, the Frames and The Commitments) meets a Czech flower seller (Markéta Irglová) while singing on the streets of Dublin. (In the credits, they're listed as Guy and Girl.) She likes what she hears and lets him know. Turns out she's a musician, too. They work on a few songs together and a friendship is forged. She lives with her widowed mother, who doesn't speak English. He lives with his widowed father, who owns a repair shop. Since he broke up with his girlfriend, the guy has been drifting, unable and unwilling to get his life in order. The girl encourages him to pursue a record deal, and the guy emerges from his funk. Then he makes a move on the girl, who rejects his advances. He's confused, but as he comes to find, there's a reason she's keeping her distance. Though Once is filled with appealing folk-pop by Hansard and Irglová (released on CD as The Swell Season), the movie isn't a traditional musical, but rather a more optimistic Brief Encounter. Filmmaker John Carney, Hansard's former bandmate, captures the real city--in all its affluence and poverty--rather than the picture postcard version. His beautifully shot film serves as a heartfelt ballad about all the underclass Guys and Girls swept aside amidst Ireland's economic miracle. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

    Customer Review: Once

I was expecting a much better love story with what was written about it. It was terrible! Then at the end we were waitin g for the end and there was none. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Also very hard to understand at times.

Customer Review: love, life, and beauty

When you reach a certain age, romantic comedies have no ring of truth to them. This movie is different. It is about shared passion - musical passion - shared loss, shared friendship - and unrealized love...because adults cannot usually indulge in love.

This movie acknowledges the pain of love - and still makes you want to go for it. It is real - and really - what more can you ask of a movie?

    Scooby-Doo Figure 5-Pack

    Scooby-Doo Figure 5-Pack
This complete 5-pack of figures includes the entire Mystery Inc. gang with Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Velma and Daphne. Each posable figure is 5" tall and has oversized features for little hands.

Customer Review: Great for 4 year old

My son got these for Christmas (along with the Mystery Machine). He loves them and I find in the kitchen on the tile constantly playing with them. He piles them in the van and solves mysterys alone with his Scooby videos. I can already see an increase in his role playing skills!

    Customer Review: BUYERS BEWARE

We bought these for our 3 year old son for Christmas. It has been a month since then and our son loves them, but there is a BIG problem. The paint on them all had been steadily falling off. Freddy now has only patches of paint on his arms, and Daphne has only a spot of paint left on her head. With the recent issues involving Chinese made toys, I decided to throw them all out this morning. The toys are great as long as you don't mind you children ingesting the paint from them. If you do buy them, check them constantly for signs of deterioration. But, I would highly discourage this purchase.

Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't

Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't

    The Challenge
Built to Last, the defining management study of the nineties, showed how great companies triumph over time and how long-term sustained performance can be engineered into the DNA of an enterprise from the verybeginning.

But what about the company that is not born with great DNA? How can good companies, mediocre companies, even bad companies achieve enduring greatness?

    The Study
For years, this question preyed on the mind of Jim Collins. Are there companies that defy gravity and convert long-term mediocrity or worse into long-term superiority? And if so, what are the universal distinguishing characteristics that cause a company to go from good to great?

    The Standards
Using tough benchmarks, Collins and his research team identified a set of elite companies that made the leap to great results and sustained those results for at least fifteen years. How great? After the leap, the good-to-great companies generated cumulative stock returns that beat the general stock market by an average of seven times in fifteen years, better than twice the results delivered by a composite index of the world's greatest companies, including Coca-Cola, Intel, General Electric, and Merck.

    The Comparisons
The research team contrasted the good-to-great companies with a carefully selected set of comparison companies that failed to make the leap from good to great. What was different? Why did one set of companies become truly great performers while the other set remained only good?

Over five years, the team analyzed the histories of all twenty-eight companies in the study. After sifting through mountains of data and thousands of pages of interviews, Collins and his crew discovered the key determinants of greatness -- why some companies make the leap and others don't.

    The Findings
The findings of the Good to Great study will surprise many readers and shed light on virtually every area of management strategy and practice. The findings include:

    • Level 5 Leaders: The research team was shocked to discover the type of leadership required to achieve greatness.
    • The Hedgehog Concept (Simplicity within the Three Circles): To go from good to great requires transcending the curse of competence.
    • A Culture of Discipline: When you combine a culture of discipline with an ethic of entrepreneurship, you get the magical alchemy of great results. Technology Accelerators: Good-to-great companies think differently about the role of technology.
    • The Flywheel and the Doom Loop: Those who launch radical change programs and wrenching restructurings will almost certainly fail to make the leap.

“Some of the key concepts discerned in the study,” comments Jim Collins, "fly in the face of our modern business culture and will, quite frankly, upset some people.”

Perhaps, but who can afford to ignore these findings?

Customer Review: Required To Read But Still Enjoyed It

My bosses boss loves this and I was made to read it as part of my annual P-928. I read it on the plane over to Rome from Detroit and it was a good solid read. Its a well documented research study on companies who were average performers who then had 15 years of sustained 2.5 or 3x stock market performance. I did appreciate the explanations as to the choices the researchers made and why.

Nevertheless, it seems to be more for middle level managers and above given that the main thesis appears to be you want a work horse CEO and not a show boat as well as one who digs down into what their company can do best and then drags the company through his dogeddness and sheer will into makeing any and all changes necessary to pursue that goal.

Customer Review: Great as in "what"?

The basic concept of "Good to Great" is that there appear to be companies that outperform others quite spectacularly for a number of years. Jim Collins sets out the results of his research team that looked at "why?"

I'm not a statistician, but whenever I read a book such as this I get worried about the selection criteria. Who says these companies are great? The key measure used by Collins is "Ratio of Cumulative Stock Returns to General Market". Such a measure only looks at the company through the eyes of one stakeholder - the owners. There are also stakeholders called customers, suppliers, staff, the industry and the community - these do not seem to be considered. Taking just one stakeholder measurement does not in my mind, deem the company "great".

The author lists eight reasons for the selected companies success. Ranging from what he calls "level 5 leadership" through to continual persistence - akin to pushing against a giant flywheel. These may or may not be accurate reflections of the reasons for success. But how does one emulate them?

This is a dense book on leadership - perhaps a little too dense for me. Nothing wrong with the concepts, but I found it a little hard to concentrate. I would have liked to see shorter chapters that engaged my thinking, rather than long winded explanations. I'd also like to hear how these "great" companies manage their other stakeholders.

If you liked "In Search Of Excellence", you'll like this book.

Having previously ordered G.A Complete Second Series Uncut from Amazon I was so excited at the prospect of receiving this 'Season Three' Box Set - when it arrived I was cross - Its practically ALL the same episodes as the previous 'Season 2' box set I bought - Save your money - its a con!

Customer Review: Not up to standard.

The only episodes I had a problem with were "Some Kind of Miracle" and the finale.

SKOM jumped the shark for awhile. I just couldn't get into the whole "Meredith in limbo" thing. However, the whole Ellis: "You are anything but ordinary" embrace was wonderful.

I could say ZERO nice things about the finale. I am so sick of the whole Are-Meredith-and-Derek-together saga. Enough already! It was the same thing in the seasons one and two finale! Are they or aren't they? Make a choice, docs!

    ...okay, I'm done.

Customer Review: Duplicate Do not buy
